I used to make pizza--crust from scratch, hand grated cheese, homemade sauce--every weekend, but for some reason (okay, life, the universe, and everything) haven't been able to get around to it lately. Friday night, however, I must have had some good mojo left over from the lunar eclipse and was able to make this:
That's a Black Bean Pizza, with (brace yourself) cheddar, mozzarella, cilantro, fresh tomatoes, homemade black beans, salsa and some asiago on top because I pretty much put asiago on anything with tomatoes. Oh, and I brush the edges of the crust with garlic olive oil. Because there's not enough going on already.
That pizza is actually the main course. I always make two pizzas. The first one is a big disc of dough that I brush with the garlic olive oil and sprinkle with fresh rosemary, pepper and sea salt. I cut it into bread stick things and use the energy from the those carbs to sustain me while I wait for the main course to come out of the oven. And yes, the four of us managed to eat both of those, every last morsel. And then lay around like slugs. Bliss.
Saturday was Mah Jong Smack Down with Nut Boy. I bought my Mah Jong set when I lived in L.A. and I was just out of college and totally broke. It cost $40 dollars, which was probably a week's worth of food, but I just fell in love with the tiles. They're heavy in your hand, with the pictures carved into their faces. When you shuffle them they make a wonderful clicking noise as they hit each other, and the names are just so fabulous--Green Dragon, North Wind, Five Bam. My favorites are the Flowers.
Nut Boy is 8, but I taught him the game when he was five or six. I think he likes the tiles as much as I do--when he was little he used to build castles out of them. But Saturday was the day. He finally beat me.
That moon mojo must still be around, because this morning the sun came out long enough for me to photograph a new Hedgie. All his brothers are wondering when their turn will come!
Definitely a great weekend so far, and tonight is the Annual Parade of Celebrity Fashion Do's and Don'ts! (Aka the Academy Awards.) I'll be looking for you on the red carpet, babe.
