Okay, last week I had kids home with the stomach flu Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday. This week Squirrel Girl was home sick Wednesday, and my husband has been home sick Thursday and Friday. Obviously, there was only one thing to do today to make sure that the thin thread by which Squirrel Momma's sanity hangs didn't snap: go to the fabric store.
See that quilted (100% cotton!) fabric with the koi? I have absolutely no idea what I will do with the two yards of it I purchased (maybe back it with flannel and make it into a couch wooby) but it CALLED to me. How could I possibly leave it behind, all lost and lonely?

I don't think I've told you about a current Etsy PlushTeam project, the Storybook and Fairytale Swap. Each of us was assigned another PlushTeam member as a partner, and then we set about trying to create a softie based on that person's favorite fairytale. I was lucky enough to have ChristinaWard as my partner (check out the fabulous wolf she made based on my favorite, "Little Red Riding Hood"). Christina's favorite is Paul Bunyan, an American folktale about a lumberjack so huge he has to use wagonwheels as buttons, and when he drags his ax on the ground it gouges out riverbeds. So of course I thought it would be supery dupery cute if I made him tiny enough to sit atop a pincushion.
Things did not go well. Oh, the stump pincushion came out okay. But Paul? Not so much.
So he has been pickled, sent to live in the glass jar of little softie mistakes I started a couple of months ago.
The final Paul Bunyan, who is now up in my shop, needed to be much, much bigger.
What was I thinking? He needed to be a GIANT, for pete's sake.
GiantPaul is a hoot! But I am also loving the jar with the softie mistakes--it's like "The Island of Misfit Toys" on Rudolph. (And you KNOW...if you auctioned that off in a few months people would fight over it, lol)
